When angry, count to four; when very angry, swear.
Mark Twain

Random Brewer Fan-geek Thing

Today’s random Brewer rally cry is brought to you by the fine people at ideaspot.net. Go Crew.

Milwaukee is tied with Chicago atop the NL Central right now (depsite having played two more games and have one more win and one more loss than the Cubs) and is in Arizona tonight playing a Diamondbacks team that is somehow 3.5 games ahead of the Padres.

With a 9-0 victory last night the Crew moved their abysmal road record to 24-36. Keep those road wins coming.

Q&A: Nick Bata

KO – Today we are sitting down with former Pingree-Buchanan-Kensal basketball and baseball player and current Mayville State University baseball player Nick Bata. Getting right into it, how’s the summer going with Legion ball?

NB –

KO – Seems like you guys have a pretty good mix of talent this year between some of the Carrington kids, you and a few of the Midkota players. Any goals in mind set so far this season?

NB –

KO – What is it like being one of the old guys on a legion team? I would have to think, especially with a year of college ball under your belt, you have a different perspective on legion ball than say, last year at this time?

NB –

KO – Talk a little bit about making the transition from high school baseball to college baseball. I spent a couple of years at Mayville State and it always seemed like in-season or off-season coach Scott Berry had his team doing something.

NB –

KO – For you personally, how did you grow as a player in the last year? What things did you feel you had to work on when you showed up last fall and how did that go throughout the winter and spring?

NB –

KO – How do you see your role changing next spring for the Comets? How do you think you’ll be used and what kind of goals do you have as far as playing time/stats/etc?

NB –

KO – Talk a little bit about your approach to pitching. What pitches do you use, what pitches do you rely on, do you feel you have an out pitch?

NB –

KO – Mayville has a pretty solid reputation with baseball, what kind of expectations go into a Comets’ season?

NB –

KO – One of the incoming freshman with you last fall was Zach Schaefer, the Langdon ace who helped the Cardinals to a runner-up finish at state a year ago. What is it like working with Schaefer and who else came in this season for MaSU?

NB –

KO – Something that I’ve always wondered, I read somewhere about baseball players talking about how intense the game of baseball is. To me, it seems like it would have to be a different kind of intensity – you aren’t beating on each other like in football – instead it seems that it is intensity tempered with some finese. Sound about right or am I way off?

NB –

KO – When you and your brother (VCSU’s Brandon Bata) get together in a pickup game, who is going to get a rebound on a missed shot? Pretty fierce games between the two of you?

NB –

KO –  Top 10 lifting songs?

NB –

KO – That’s about all I’ve got, so I’d like to thank you for time and sitting down to run through this with me, I really appreciate it. To wrap it up, I’ll give you a little face time (so to speak) to say whatever.

Q&A: Sam Larson

photo from unparalled eye of John M. Steiner

*Note – Just fill in the blank and send it to me and a-blogging I’ll go. If there is anything else you’d like to add or go into, just leave me a note about what you are doing and I can slide in a question to help direct it that way or whatever. Thanks for the time, I really appreciate it.

KO – Today we mark the return of the question and answer session as we sit down with Jamestown High School senior and long distance runner Sam Larson. Getting right into it, how goes the outdoor track season for you?

SL –

KO – Has it at all sunk in that in a few weeks you are outta the high school and basically done with that chapter of your life?

SL –

KO – One of the things I keep hearing about is how close you are to the JHS school record in the 1600. Talk about what the record means to you and how you approach trying to break it.

SL –

KO – Do you have a preference between the fall cross country or spring track and field season? Parts of each you enjoy?

SL –

KO – At what point in your life did it all of a sudden become clear that you had a chance to be a really dominant runner?

SL –

KO – Is there a race that stands out, win or loss, as ‘the race’ for you, personally? Describe it, what all happened, why it stands out, etc.

SL –

KO – It seems like you have pretty much reached the status in long-distance races where you are picked over the field and have continually delivered. How does being one of, if not the, best long-distance runners in the state motivate you to stay sharp and to continue to get better?

SL –

KO – Decided on a college/major yet? I’m assuming that you will run for that school, too?

SL –

KO – Any plans to try something like a Boston Marathon run or something similar later on in life?

SL –

KO – If you could sit down and have supper with five people, doesn’t matter dead or alive, who would they be?

SL –

KO – I found long-distance running to be one of those things you can’t really do angry. With throwing events or sprints, it seems like you can go further/faster if you are emotionally charged, but with long-distances it seems like that isn’t the case. Can you explain it?

SL –

KO – Big fan of listening to music when you run? Just like to use the time to contemplate your naval? Just focus on breathing?

SL –

KO – When you aren’t out pounding the pavement, what do you do to relax and wind down?

SL –

KO – That about wraps up everything I’ve got for you. It’s been a pleasure my man. Good stuff and best of luck in your future endeavors.
